Tuxborn
As of April 2025 I became a contributing member to the team that put together Tuxborn, a Wabbajack modpack for Skyrim! So this page features that modpack.
What is Tuxborn?
It’s a collection of mods you can install on Skyrim to overhaul its appearance and mechanics, and to add a great deal of content from the Skyrim modding community!
What do I need to run it?
Tuxborn relies on a tool called Wabbajack to organize and install the mods. If you have Wabbajack, then you can use that tool to do all the heavy lifting for you to set up every single mod in the pack.
Wabbajack is primarily intended for PCs, although it can also be run on Linux systems with a little additional work. In turn, it relies upon Mod Organizer 2 to set up the mods and configure them on the user’s system. So you must be running a device capable of running Mod Organizer 2 as well.
You do not, however, actually need to install Mod Organizer 2 yourself. Wabbajack will set up an install of MO2 for you when you install the modpack.
Additionally, if you’re running Windows, MO2 is known to not work on ARM builds of Windows at this time. (Which unfortunately means that if you are a user of an Apple Silicon Mac, even if you have a Windows VM, MO2 won’t work for you. Sorry, Mac users!)
Tuxborn is explicitly designed to be performance friendly on the Steam Deck. But we also support other handhelds capable of running either Windows or Linux, such as the ROG Ally.
You must own the most recent released version of Skyrim, as well as the Anniversary Edition content. This is required because a lot of the mods in Tuxborn rely upon the Anniversary Edition content being present to work.
Tell me about how you’re playing Tuxborn?
I won’t be doing each and every future Skyrim playthrough in this modpack, but it will feature prominently in my playthrough blogging!
I do still have my Nona Playthrough in progress on Tuxborn’s earlier 0.5.2 build, and I will eventually finish that. But Tuxborn’s updated a couple of times since I started running Nona, and now I have a couple of additional Tuxborn playthroughs: Alecto on 1.0.1, and Kenna on 1.1.1.
How big a modpack are we talking here?
Tuxborn has over 1,300 mods in it! (Specific counts vary depending on which profile of Tuxborn you’re playing.) Not the biggest and most complex of Wabbajack lists, but still very respectable. So if Tuxborn’s particular collection of content appeals to you, installing it will save you a lot of time and trouble, as you won’t have to install and configure all the individual mods yourself.
What content does Tuxborn feature?
Here are a few highlights of Tuxborn’s additions to the game:
- We spotlight Legacy of the Dragonborn, using the most recent available version. So if you’ve ever wanted to play Legacy of the Dragonborn, this would be an excellent way for you to do so.
- Other major popular quest mods such as Wyrmstooth, Midwood Isle, Vigilant, Glenmoril, Unslaad, Project AHO, Carved Brink, and more.
- A strong assortment of custom followers, including Lucien, Inigo, Gore, Remiel, Auri, Xelzaz, and more.
- Major overhauls in the game’s overall appearance, including environment and architecture, and even NPC appearances. We include Community Shaders as well.
- A selection of configurations you can choose from, depending on whether you’re playing on a PC or a handheld device.
- Depending on what configuration profile you want to use, we feature either Blade and Blunt or BFCO as available combat overhauls.
- A curated mix-and-match assortment of mods from both Simonrim and Enairim, well-known mod series that conduct extensive overhauls of many aspects of the game.
This sounds pretty awesome, where can I find out more?
Go over to Tuxborn’s official Github, where you will find the Readme to follow for all things you’ll want to do in order to install and use the modpack! This includes pointers off to instructions for both PC and handheld users.
And have a look at the Tuxborn wiki, where I’m contributing roundups on followers, player homes, armor and weapons available in the modpack, and more!
I will also periodically post content here relevant to Tuxborn users. A general rule of thumb I’ll be following is, if it’s officially endorsed by the Tuxborn devs, it’ll go up on the wiki. If it’s unofficial practice I’m still willing to share as tips to other Tuxborn players, I’ll share it here.
So be advised that if you see me posting a Tuxborn thing here, it’s a thing you should ask me about, and not the Tuxborn devs, Ouroboros and Omni. Your cooperation with this is appreciated in advance. ❤️
Any content I put up that’s related to Tuxborn and not specifically involved with a playthrough can be found marked with the Tuxborn category.
Who else is on the Tuxborn team?
Ouroboros is the primary Tuxborn developer. He does the work of compiling the modpack in Wabbajack, and making sure all of the mods play well together.
Omni manages the Readme and installation guides for Tuxborn, including all information about how to install Wabbajack on Linux platforms.
