Spoiler-free short review of the Forgotten City mod
When I put out a call for what mods were recommended for a modded Skyrim run, one of the strongest recs I got was for one called The Forgotten City. This thing got a Writer’s Guild award for the strength of its plot, and the team that created it went pro and turned the overall plot structure into a standalone game, even.
I can now say that I’ve run this mod in Harrow’s run, and I enjoyed it immensely. I had a couple of small quibbles with it, but these were minor quibbles indeed. So if you’re in a position to run mods on Skyrim, I do highly recommend you consider checking this out.
I’ll be going into depth about my experiences with the mod in Harrow’s next full post. But by definition, that post will be chock full of spoilers. If you think you might want to run this mod at all, you might want to skip that post until you do.
In this post, I will limit myself to spoiler-free commentary, just enough to offer up a few tidbits and let you decide if you think the mod sounds like fun to you.
Deets (again, spoiler-free) behind the fold.

In Which Harrowhark Gains a Star and a Horn, and Also Slays Some Dragons
Double session post, main action of which was Harrowhark acquiring Azura’s Star, recovering the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller, and slaying the dragon Sahloknir. And, Team Dragonborn paid a little visit to Lost Valley Redoubt and pissed off a whole lot of Forsworn!
-
In Which Harrowhark Investigates the Ruins of Winterhold
This is a double session post, though two sessions that were more or less the same extended RP session. Both of these sessions focused on getting through the Fall of Winterhold quest, which is put into the game by the Immersive College of Winterhold mod.

In Which Harrowhark Becomes Arch-Mage and is Kidnapped by the Brotherhood
So this was a nice big eventful session, which involved recovering the Staff of Magnus from Labyrinthian, becoming Arch-Mage of the College of Winterhold, and getting kidnapped by Astrid to kick off the Dark Brotherhood plotline!

In Which Harrowhark Learns the Location of the Staff of Magnus
More mage college action here, running Mzulft, and then returning to the college and witnessing the death of the Arch-Mage!
-
In Which Harrowhark Speaks to the Augur of Dunlain and Journeys to Mzulft
Double session post, mostly featuring exploring a bunch of changes to the mage college thanks to the Immersive College of Winterhold mod. <3 But I also got in working on the side quests for the mage apprentices, retrieving the staff for Enthir (this time from Pinemoon Cave), and then raiding Faldar’s Tooth for the clue about finding the sword Bloodthirst. And I got the Augur of Dunlain to point me at the Staff of Magnus, and Mirabelle to point me at Mzulft for finding clues on its whereabouts!

In Which Harrowhark Recovers Azura’s Star and Stolen Books
Single session here, but with a decent amount of action! Main highlights: running both Ilinalta’s Deep and Fellglow Keep, then returning to the College of Winterhold with the recovered books.
-
In Which Harrowhark Gets Bloodchill Cavern and Joins the College of Winterhold
Finally made it to the mage college in Harrowhark’s playthrough, which is later than I’ve historically done it! But it was particularly satisfying this time, because I’d kind of forgotten that I have the Immersive College of Winterhold mod installed. And I finally got to start seeing it in action. 😀
Also, I have acquired Bloodchill Cavern–which plays out significantly differently if you come into the place as a vampire.

In Which Harrowhark Becomes Thane of Hjaalmarch
Double session post, with primary action being achieving the thaneship of Hjaalmarch, which brings housecarl Valdimar onto Team Dragonborn. Also, built things at properties; took out the dragon at Skyborn Altar; gave Inigo my horse (and got a new one of my own); and took out a whole bunch of bandits, wolves, and zombies.

In Which Harrowhark Gains a Thaneship and a Khajiit Follower
Double session post! Main action here: achieving the thaneship in Falkreath; reaching Haemar’s Shame and getting the directive to fetch the Rueful Axe; taking out the bandits at Treva’s Watch; buying the land for Lakeview Manor, and beginning its building; fetching the Rueful Axe from Rimerock Burrow, and then delivering it to Clavicus Vile to get him to take Barbas back; acquiring the sword Dawnfang and Duskfang from the depths of the Ratway; getting Grelod the Kind arrested for abusing her charges; and last but not least, acquiring a Khajiit companion with extremely odd ideas about why he needed to voluntarily commit himself to the Riften jail.
