Alarrah Playthrough

In Which Alarrah Decides to Take It Easy for a Bit

Twitter thread from 5/22/2021, in which Alarrah recovers an amulet for Kharjo the Khajiit, informs a captain in Windhelm that his deserted crew member has been dealt with, and runs a bandit bounty for Riften.

In Which Alarrah, After Going Through the Ringer for Meridia, Decides to Take It Easy for a Bit

1. So yeah, after that run through Kilkreath to get Dawnbreaker, I felt like doing some really easy stuff during last night’s run. 😉

3:15 PM · May 22, 2021
So I opted to whittle down the list of miscellaneous quests a little!

2. First one I tackled involving finding that moon amulet for the Khajiit merchant I’d talked to.

3:15 PM · May 22, 2021
And that involved re-visiting a bandit lair I’d cleared out before. This time there were new bandits, but at this point? Bandit lairs have kind of turned into a cakewalk for me.

3:16 PM · May 22, 2021
3. I’m seeing more incidents now of actual human or mer opponents yelling “Mercy!” at me if I beat up on them enough in a fight.

3:16 PM · May 22, 2021
I would be a little concerned about the implications of proceeding to kill them (I mean, giving mercy to an opponent should be a good thing, right?) if this didn’t always lead to the opponent promptly returning to wailing on you as soon as you let them get up again.

3:17 PM · May 22, 2021
In other words, no mercy for you if you’re bullshitting the Dragonborn, sorry!

4. Once I got that amulet then it became a matter of figuring out where the Khajiit had gone. And for a little troop of four cat people traveling on foot, wow they moved fast across the map.

3:17 PM · May 22, 2021
I had to fast travel like three times to catch up with them.

5. And the first one of those DID involve a dragon sighting, although this was another incident of just seeing the dragon and it not actually bothering to land and fight with me.

3:18 PM · May 22, 2021
6. Apparently it IS common to have dragon encounters after you fast travel, from what I’ve seen looking up stuff online. So Alarrah, or at least her player, is NOT just imagining dragons have a way of showing up to get in her face when she shows up in certain places. ;D

3:19 PM · May 22, 2021
7. Bounced past a couple of potentially interesting places on the way to catching up with the Khajiit, and overheard a couple of interesting sounding bits of NPC dialogue, but didn’t stick around to investigate them. CAN’T TALK NOW LOOKING FOR THE KITTY BAAAAAAAI!

3:20 PM · May 22, 2021
8. Finally caught up with the Khajiit, gave him the amulet back, and got his pledge to fight at my side if I ever needed him. Awesome. <3 didn’t need him right then though, so let go on his merry way that i could mine. got 750 gold for my trouble.

3:20 PM · May 22, 2021
9. Next item on the agenda: trying to figure out what the hell the “Return to Kjar” quest was because I honestly had no earthly idea. (This is the character, apparently? https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Kjar)

3:21 PM · May 22, 2021
He apparently had a runaway crew member that I must have killed while doing the “go get the lute” quest for the Bards College.

3:21 PM · May 22, 2021
10. So I tracked down Kjar in Windhelm, where I again heard interesting passing bits of NPC dialogue, but made a point of not getting involved partly because I know now that Windhelm is Stormcloak territory and I am NOT ready to take on the Skyrim Civil War plotline yet. 😀

3:22 PM · May 22, 2021
11. Anyway, found Kjar and told him his crew member had been “taken care of”. He paid me for that, too!

12. Third and final quest item for the night: taking care of the bounty for taking out a bandit leader that I’d picked up in Riften.

3:22 PM · May 22, 2021
13. So that involved more fast travel back to Riften territory, and then wandering around for some more awesome aurora screencap opportunities, before finally finding the bandit lair and taking on the bandits inside.

14. By this point also I’d made a point of wielding Dawnbreaker. Encountered zero undead during all this questing, so I didn’t get to see any draugr explode, but I did get to set a few opponents on fire in battle and that was, I admit, pretty frigging awesome.

3:23 PM · May 22, 2021
15. Dawnbreaker’s also pretty helpful for investigating dark places! But not so much for helping you get your sneak on. 😀 Argument for keeping my ebony sword around!

3:24 PM · May 22, 2021
16. The bandit chief, when I finally caught up with her after killing her underlings, also pulled the “mercy! Not like this!” line on me. But, as it was bullshit, I took her out and returned to Riften to collect the bounty.

3:24 PM · May 22, 2021
17. This involved needing to go to Mistveil Keep to speak with the Steward there. While there, I also got the Steward’s spiel about how the Jarl is COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY in control of Riften (never mind what I may have heard).

3:25 PM · May 22, 2021
Uh-huh. Right. I totally believe that. Particularly after overhearing on my way out about how Maven Black-Briar “requires” the Jarl to do something or other. Sure, a Jarl who has ostensible subjects ‘requiring’ her to do anything is TOTALLY in control of her city. Yep.

3:25 PM · May 22, 2021
18. The important point here though being, got a nice bounty off of THAT, too, which kicked my gold total up well over 3000.

19. Sold off a few things in Riften shops, including the most recent round of dragon bits, just to get my inventory weight back down.

3:26 PM · May 22, 2021
20. And then finally decided I’d return to Whiterun, partly because the forge there actually has a smelter, and partly because Alarrah was really kind of wanting to be back in her very own house.

3:26 PM · May 22, 2021
21. Told Lyds she could stand down, so that SHE could also hang out at home for a bit, and y’know, sleep or something.

22. Tried on the “Fine Clothes” I’d bought in Solitude, just to upgrade the wardrobe a bit. There will be imminent screencaps!

3:27 PM · May 22, 2021
23. Filled up Breezehome’s two bookshelves with several more books I’d acquired on the way, and stuffed a bunch of other things into the chest in my bedroom, including an extraneous Halldir’s Staff.

3:27 PM · May 22, 2021
Because I DO have two of them, thanks to triggering a bug, and I certainly don’t need both of them. But I’m not sure I’ll be able to sell the one yet? It’s worth like 1800+ gold and I’m not sure who I can sell it to.

3:27 PM · May 22, 2021
24. Also popped into Warmaiden’s AND the Drunken Huntsman to clear out some more stuff to sell. And OH HEY LOOK Dwarven Armor! Present for Lydia! \0/

25. And an Elven Bow! Time to upgrade from the Dwarven I’ve been carrying around! \0/

3:28 PM · May 22, 2021
26. Next time: another round of shopping, and then deciding what to do next! Do I go investigate the Thalmor Embassy with Delphine? Or go to the Shrine of Azura? SO MANY CHOICES!

  2. 10/2/2024: Reconstructed the original Twitter thread locally, since I deleted my Twitter account. And since this is a reconstruction of the thread, I took the liberty of hotlinking the wiki link to the Kjar page, even though I didn’t have a hotlink in the original thread. Because Twitter took care of that at the time.
