This page is for the thoroughly documented saga of my very first playthrough of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Even though this is a ten-year-old game, I finally played it for the first time in spring of 2021 when I got a Nintendo Switch.
And, being me, I decided to document my playthrough in depth. This turned out to amuse a lot of folks who follow me on social media as well as on my annathepiper.org blog and its Dreamwidth mirror. More than one person decided to play Skyrim again because of my reminding them of the fun they’d had before. And at least one person also started playing it on the Switch for the first time! This page is dedicated to all of you!
Note that a lot of my initial sessions with Alarrah started as being documented on Twitter and Facebook first–before I got detailed enough with them that I shifted over to posting blog posts on WordPress instead, because that was easier for me to write up.
She is named for a character in my Rebels of Adalonia books, Valor of the Healer, Vengeance of the Hunter, and Victory of the Hawk.
Alarrah’s Backstory
As Alarrah was a Bosmer, I decided that her backstory for how she wound up in Skyrim was fairly straightforward: she fled Valenwood to escape Thalmor persecution. When I got to the point of running the Dawnguard plot, I decided as well that Alarrah never knew her parents and grew up alone.
Playthrough Posts
Here are all of Alarrah’s playthrough posts! These are listed in descending chronological order. Note the pagination controls; you can use those to page through to subsequent posts.
Several of the initial posts in this playthrough were initially links off to Twitter threads, which I created backdated WordPress posts for here. Once I deleted my Twitter account, I reconstructed the threads locally in the posts to maintain what I’d tweeted at the time. This also let me add location and other tags to those threads, and made it easier to list the posts of Alarrah’s playthrough the same way I’ve done other playthroughs since.
You can also browse Alarrah’s posts via her playthrough category link.
- In Which the Dragonborn Discovers Serious Weirdness in the Blue Palace - 06/02/2021In which the Dragonborn takes on yet another Daedric Prince and lives to tell the (arguably rather wacky) tale; and in which the Dragonborn’s player does not succeed in trying a couple other quests.
- In Which the Dragonborn Makes the Thalmor Very Cranky - 05/31/2021In which the Dragonborn infiltrates the Thalmor Embassy and makes a bunch of Thalmor very, very cranky, but hey it was a stupid party anyway; and in which she helps out a couple of people in Solitude.
- In Which the Dragonborn Becomes Thane of Falkreath - 05/29/2021In which the Dragonborn finally becomes Thane of Falkreath, after some killing of dragons and vampires, but also a bit of petty larceny; and also in which I break my own record for how many times Lydia can die in one night.
- In Which the Dragonborn Rescues a Hunter, Discovers a Werewolf, and Kills a Giant and More Bandits - 05/28/2021In which the Dragonborn’s quest to become Thane of Falkreath leads to killing a giant, investigating a missing hunting party, investigating the death of a child (and discovering a werewolf and yet another Daedric Prince), and killing more bandits.
- In Which the Dragonborn Gets Nettlebane and Has to Fight Bandits at Her Own Damn House - 05/27/2021In which the Dragonborn acquires the weapon Nettlebane, visits the sacred Eldergleam tree, and acquires a sapling to become the new Gildergreen; and in which the Dragonborn has to fight bandits in her own literal house
